L'aromathérapie est une thérapeutique utilisant les essences, les huiles essentielles et les hydrolats aromatiques extraits des parties aromatiques des plantes médicinales. Il existe actuellment un engouement croissant pour les soins d'origine naturelle. Face à cette demande, les professionnells de santé se doivent d'y répondre avec la plus grande précaution. En effet, l'aromathérapie est une médecine complémentaire puissante et non inoffensive. L'objectif de ce travail est de réaliser un état des lieux des pratiques en aromathérapie dans la région Rhône-Alpes. Nous nous focalisarons plus particulièrement sur les soins palliatifs. Dans un premier temps, nous poserons quelques bases nécessaires à la bonne compréhension de l'aromathérapie. Nous verrons également les propriétés des huiles essentielles, leurs emplois et risques de toxicité. Dans un deuxième temps, nous présenterons une enquête réalisée auprès des services de soins palliatifs de Rhône-Alpes afin de recenser les pratiques en aromathérapie. Nous illustrerons ces résultats à l'aide de l'exemple de deux équipes de soins palliatifs, pratiquant les soins d'aromathérapie au quotidien. Un enquête de satisfaction auprès des patients ayant reçu les soins aux huiles essentielles a été mise en place dans ces deux services. Les résultats de ces études nous ménerons à réfléchir sur l'avenir de l'aromathérapie à l'hôpital, son potentiel et ses limites

Les avancées réalisées à propos de ces derniers vont bénéficier à l'ensemble des jeunes écoliers et réciproquement. Si les cadres classiques, dyslexie, dysorthographie, dyscalculie, ont été remplacés par les notions plus simples et plus solides d'enfants dyspraxiques, non lecteurs et très mauvais lecteurs, les causalités linéaires et simplistes du passé ont volé en éclats. On parle maintenant de stratégies différenciées d'apprentissage, correspondant à des stades maturatifs, pouvant se succéder, mais aussi se recouvrir, être utilisées de façon complémentaire par le même sujet ou encore être privilégiées par tel enfant plutôt que par tel autre. On cherche à favoriser l'émergence de ces stratégies, par une plus grande attention au fonctionnement et au désir de l'enfant, qu'il soit en classe ordinaire ou en hôpital de jour, en organisant des tout petits groupes de pairs assistés d'un instituteur-ressource qui encourage plus qu'il n'instruit et laisse les enfants résoudre les conflits cognitifs en les protégeant de l'échec.

En France, les rhumatismes représentent la première cause de consultation médicale. Dans quasiment la totalité des cas, la douleur a amené le patient à cette consultation. Certains traitements alors prescrits, tels que ceux à base d’anti-inflammatoires non stéroïdiens, peuvent échouer. Soit parce que le principe actif ne fait pas assez effet, soit parce que les effets indésirables dépassent les effets bénéfiques recherchés. Dans ce cas d’impasse thérapeutique voire même en complément d’un traitement anti-inflammatoire allopathique, l’aromathérapie pourrait pallier à la douleur des patients. Dite, à tort, « médecine douce », voire « naturelle », il ne s’agit en aucun cas d’une thérapeutique à sous estimer, aussi bien en ce qui concerne son activité bénéfique que les effets nocifs consécutifs à une mauvaise utilisation. Cette thèse évoque les molécules retrouvées en aromathérapie et ayant démontré, notamment in vivo sur modèles expérimentaux animaliers, des propriétés anti-inflammatoires, antalgiques ou antioxydantes. Elle aborde également le cas de plusieurs espèces botaniques fournissant des huiles essentielles utilisées, de manière justifiée ou pas, dans les pathologies rhumatismales. Enfin, si ce travail insiste sur les activités pharmacologiques des molécules et huiles essentielles citées, leur toxicologie y est également approfondie.
